My kid is not expendable. Make sure the rest are somewhere safe and go for the one who needs recovering.

Come up with a plan ahead of time for such scenarios and what to do, talk it over with your spouse. Don't label it the " SHTF plan" but something like the "winter storm plan"

My older kid is in college an hour away in one of the crappier bigger cities Upstate. If something happens like the scenario in the OP, no way am I leaving her defenseless there. Parenthood isn't easy and it never stops just because your kids hit some magic age. They're still your flesh and blood

On another forum the contributor offered this problem presumably from experience.
Some one had ventured out side and a sniper wounded them , those whom ventured out to rescue the first were wounded as well.
The choice is, to presume the sniper will keep their word, and only take your food and go, or let your wounded die .

Rules for the house hold must be under the strictest respect.
Any one going out side is not worth risking another person to rescue. and in fact taking the enemies side making ones self an unsavable hostage.
A sniper is not going to care who they wound, so long as it draws out more of the house hold to eliminate.

This is the Ruby Ridge Senerio.... and the only way to deal with it, is to leave the building, using a preplanned escape route, that is out of sight off the Sniper... Like a Tunnel, to a place outside the effective sight of the Sniper.... Once outside, you then maneuver, to bring the Sniper, under your sights from a totally different direction.... typically from behind, and at distance...
