My first hunting rifle was a 30-30 and I loved it. It was a bolt action and only held 3 +1 in the chamber... kicked like a mule and was not the most beautiful rifle I ever saw.... but it was mine.... and it got the job done well when hunting down by the river in the thick brush or the foothills in the deep draws and other rough stuff, great in the close range stuff with open sights. That lasted until I got dad's Remington 270 BDL and used it.... then.... I was all about that rifle, with many deer and elk taken since..........I have it still, and will never part with it, till they lay me down for good.
My first Centerfire Weapon was my Winchester 94 Saddle-Ring Carbine, in 30-30... Still have it, in the Gun Locker, and still handload all the Ammunition for it.
My first hunting rifle was a Winchester 88 in 308 and I put a Weaver 4x12 scope on it. Took many deer and hogs with it and it is the only rifle I own that I would not sell. It has been a safe queen for many years and it is going to come out of retirement this fall for elk hunting.
I have been a shooter and owner of Ruger Mini30 and now a Mini14 and I am very fond of them. But my service rifle was an FNFNC and I really miss it . Too bad the laws here are what they are. New family philosophy is however that we don't like firearms and we wish there was no such thing at all. The problem being that there IS firearms and there are alot of bad people using them, so we don't have any choice but to own and train with them.
I recently bought a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 and it is rapidly becoming my favorite rifle. A joy to shoot
Aren't those guaranteed sub MOA out of the box for around $500? A good bargain. I used to have a Weatherby Vanguard V when composite stocks were still sci-fi. Had to sell it . . . cost too much to feed. But, then again, one box of shells could last a feller 5 - 6 seasons at least. Oh, that was a different life ago.....
My newest is a Tikka T3 stainless in 7-08. Sighting it in it shot 2 groups under 3/4 MOA at 100 yards. It is a great gun, I like it a lot. I got it because my 7MM rM got to be hard on my injured shoulder. That gun is a Remington BDL stainless that shoot about 3/4 MOA. My son got that beauty. But I also like A Win 94, AR's, Saiga and more.
my goto gun is a tavor...my group likes to keep standard ar mags. but my favorite is my polish byrel archer....5.56 ak. very accurate, no recoil, optics rail system, amazing trigger. runs like forest gump. the tavor is great too but the archer ak just has something about it.
I'd have to try everything but so far I haven't found anything I could say I like shooting better than a Winchester lever. Picking a particular one would be just as hard... 30-30, .357, .22...
My first hunting rifle was a M14 in the Corps So I guess my M1As are now . But they seam to be getting heavier every year .
I have Daniel Defense MM4V5 and I love it, not because it's the best gun I've ever owned but because it's the nicest.
I have a very old Winchester md.54 and its patterned after the Springfield 1903 in 30-06 I love it and it also is fitted like the 1903 with a place for stripper clips
Okay, I'll play. My favorite rifle was/still is an M40 / Winchester Model 70 24 inch Bull Barrel 30-06. Texas Brigade Armory - AR-15 Option If I'm going sport hunting my favorite rifle would be a Remington Model 7 .308 Winchester 18 inch barreled. As to the first rifle, does an air rifle/ pellet gun count? (expended countless thousands of rounds)
I've just learned that Savage has made a new .17 HMR semiauto, and to celebrate it, ammo has been developed that is 100 FPS faster then the previous 17 HMR ammo kicking it up to roughly 2650 FPS . It has a delayed ejection system that waits till the major energy is spent before the ejection is engaged . ( or something to that effect. ) This would be my new favorite, had I one to brag about.
