Glad to hear of an old gun getting back into service....nothing like giving a old gun a new lease on life. Don't feel undergunned....many of the originals that I have or have seen have a caliber range from .. .42- .52 caliber...so .45 caliber is right in line with this... Andy
I shot two hogs with a .25-20 I brought back to life from an insurance fire for a dutch uncle. Good blaster for its size.......
At one time I owned a Winchester 94 rifle from 1898 in .25-20....like a fool I traded it off for something... Its a underrated cartridge for sure... Glad you still have yours...and still use it. Andy
And a few more! My "rescue" 03A4 Stalking rifle project. And my most favorite of all I own, ever owned, or ever will! My .375 weatherby Mag ( the One to rule them all) that never sits in the safe, and has earned every scratch and dent with pride! This Was my first rifle build, with much assistance from my Grand Parents. The Stock was a hand select from my Grand Dads private collection of blanks, he helped me cut and shape it, and my Grand Mother did the cut checkering for which she was well known and highly sought after, and I did the metal work and my very first bluing job! We started out with a badly mauled Holland and Holland Commercial magnum Mauser action and bolt and built from there! it has a Danny Pedderson Cut Rifle barrel with a slightly faster twist of 1/9-3/4 and was originally chambered by me ( with Grand Dads help) to .375 H&H then reamed a year later to Weatherby for improved performance ( like I needed it, LOL) and thus began a legacy!
Ok Andy, You know you want to share the pictures of your collection of Grand Muzzle Loaders, come on now, I never get tired of seeing those beautiful fire breathers! LOL
Okay...just 'cause you like 'em....not 'cause I like this picture.... So I have a collection of 30 odd antique firearms... I travel around to various rendezvous , events and museums and give a display. I do allow folks to take photos...handle and even shoot a few of them if at a proper place to do so. In these pics...you can some of my collection. Andy
JOYGASM Never get tired of those, Some day soon, I'm gonna make a road trip your way and hope to see those in person!
In the first picture... the two next to the last rifle on the left as you look at the picture are Northwest Trade Guns... One is an original Parker Field from 1834...the other is a mix master of original and new parts... The Parker is pictured below...it is an interesting gun with a cool conversion from flint to cap.... Andy
The Mauser 98 is a fine rifle...well it and just about all of its variations.... While in the past I have owned a few...the only Mauser I still own is a JC Higgins Model 50 ( FN Browning Action ) in .30-06...it has a Leupold 3-9x 40mm scope....favorite load is Federal's 165 grain "Power shock"...but it also shoots 180 grainers nicely as well.... Andy
HAHAHAHA. That is the neatest conversion I have ever layed eyes on. I'm going to have to put some thought on that and get back to you. Haha.
Hum.........I gots these here bullets that need a barrel to slide down over a charge of powder! Lol Always looking for intresting projects!
I am not sure if Green Mountain Barrels are still in business, but they made the absolute BEST BP Barrels ever, back in the day... both Flint & Cap...
