I'm sure what you say is true but this behavior is not endemic to Real. FF, Chrome and IE all track your usage and report to the home office.

I'm sure you can find the privacy settings and turn some things on/off.

What Brokor meant by trusted was in context to Equilibriums hesitation to use 'free software'. Real is not going to gunk up her pc with pop-up hell.

Oh no.... it didn't gunk me up at all. It's wonderful. I will say one thing though... I'm running something automatic called Malwarebytes that they put on here and it's coming up with some new things I've not seen before. Could this be those packets? Sincere question but what does it matter if they report to momma what we're watching?

Malwarebytes won't detect info going back out. It's a pretty good detector of malicious stuff that comes in, and it lets you know if there is a hazard that needs attending to immediately. Less harmful stuff is detected during scans, and gives you the option to live with it or remove it. M-b plays nice with IE and Ff. dunno about the others.

If you have a firewall, you can configure it to control some of that outgoing stuff. Being a bit wimpy, all I have is what M$ and Ff gave me. Mostly, it's a matter of permitting, or not, cookies, which are the most common item that sites plant on your machine so that the sites know you.

It'll finish running by the time I get up tomorrow. I'll post what it's finding. I usually don't find hardly anything except cookies. These are probably just cookies too then.

Real Player is legit and you can always buy the paid version, it's worth it and I have used it for years. It's a quality product and is not spyware. Like Melbo said, it doesn't gunk up your PC and you can opt out of reporting.
