In my younger days my son and I put in our septic system SC allows fiberglass tanks so we got a 1100 gallon tank and put in 100' of drain field all dug by hand. In SC 100' drain field covers 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house. Been in for 25+ years about 5 years go I had to dig up 20' section and replace clogged with tree roots. (Literally a shitty job) Have the tank cleaned out about every 5 years. Posted earlier sons system cost 7K I'd check out the option of putting the septic system yourself and save a bundle of $$$$
Definitely get rid of those cedar trees. They suck up about five gallons of water a day for each tree, and do nothing for the soil. Texas would be far better off if all of the cedar (juniper) and most of the mesquite were eradicated. Check out Bamgerger Ranch near San Antonio and see what they have achieved using this system. Jim
Congratulations, you have your Dad's touch. A lot of posts get no reply, you are up to 3 pages with a lot of good information on a subject many are interested in and have the Monkey's attention. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing your experiences! It's incredible to see how septic systems can be successfully installed by homeowners, even by hand. It underscores the importance of understanding our systems and taking charge of their maintenance. Jim, I agree with you on the issue of cedar trees. Their water consumption can be enormous. The story of the Bamgerger Ranch is inspiring. Lastly, thank you for your encouragement; it's through exchanges like these that we can all learn and progress in our water conservation practices.
