So I've got a new favorite. It sounds gross but trust me it's damn good. I was at a biker bar in Eureka Springs last year and was talking to the barmaid. She asked me if I'd ever tried Screwball Peanut Butter flavored bourbon. I said hell no, I don't like those flavored whiskeys. She got my to try a shot and it wasn't bad. She said that you usually mix it with cranberry juice and it tastes like a PB&J sandwich. I said nope. I don't like fruity drinks. Long story short, too late, we started trying it with different mixes. Finally tried it with Dr. Pepper. Dayum!!! That's some good stuff there. We had everyone in the bar trying it and I've introduced several people to it this last year. It's smokey and of course nutty, and the DP gives it a sweetness. Pairs great with a nice Maduro stogie. We were trying to come up with a name for it. We settled on a PB&D.
During my IT career, we had a snack selection in our breakroom kitchen. I found an intereting combination. Chew up a Lance brand whole wheat & cheddar cheese cracker, then drink a swig of fruit punch flavored drink. The taste sensation is of a piece of cherry pie with graham cracker crust! No joke, it really works! Fascinating how we can fool our taste buds!
She'd have to be bouncing a nice rack in front of me to try some fruity stuff like that . Is that how she got ya ???
So, Brokor guide me to a good online source for cigars. The local stuff here has been on the shelf for years...
Scored at the local package store today... George Dickel Bottled in Bond, Weller Special Reserve, and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.
I'm currently smoking some MacBaren Plum Cake in my Stanwell pipe after eating some homemade keto ice cream. Well I've been watching some Youtube vids by Anders Erickson. He has 20 years behind the bar and works at a bar that specializes in per-prohibition cocktails. SO.... My phone is on charge and I'll upload a pic after a while.... Well, that was more than a while... The Whiskey Sour The Sazerac The booze in the Sazerac
I'm not a big alcohol drinker. I rarely even drink alcohol these days, but I do love a great cigar. I made some coffee this morning in the percolator. Looking forward to the weekend.
I’m still stuck on this.., I've discovered that the liquid from canned chickpeas can be used in place of raw egg white. Produces the same foam but reduces the risks involved in consuming raw egg protein. I have also started using a home made semi-rich simple syrup made with demerare sugar.. 1 1/2 cups sugar to 1 cup water over medium low heat, stir until combined, allow to cool then bottle. It adds a richness and complements the whiskey, per Anders Erickson.
So I did not read the whole thread. Seens to have jumped to cocktails and away from cigars. I just order a bunch of different varieties of Tobacco seeds as part of my preps. Thought tobacco might be in high demand after things go sideways. Did not get it soon enough to plant any this year but am going to try next year. The one variety I have is supposed to be very high nicotine content and offers some possibilities for insect control in other parts of the garden. Anyone here try to do this on a small scale?
I'll have to look into buying shade. I thought it was pretty tightly controlled. Dad used to leave cigar butts in the garden and would mix up tobacco juice to spray on some of the plants. I can't say for sure that any of that worked. Beer in bottle caps drowns slugs, dried blood keeps deer and rabbits away and two boys with big tweezers and a mason jar with some gasoline in it were very effective at controlling tomato worms. Dad grew tobacco from seed one year in the early 1970's and for years after that we had volunteer tobacco plants popping up all around the valley rim. It was an interesting sight in South Eastern Michigan. I made plug tobacco with most of it, packing it into holes bored in birch logs. Layered with brown but still pliable tobacco leaf and molasses it was ready when the log was dried and I'd split it out like firewood, but with greater care. It wasn't bad. I rolled some cigars from single leaves. No filler, just roll the leaf tightly when it was still green enough to be sticky. They ended up short and small around, but they would stay lit well enough to keep bugs away. I felt like Clint Eastwood in some western movie smoking those things.
Four Loko Warheads Sour Cosmic Punch Flavoured Malt Beverage I'm sampling this one. It's 13.9% alcohol by volume. I usually prefer from 3.2-5% from canned beverages but this really isn't too harsh. Not PJ smooth, but not the "pour down the drain" malt liquor funk of a Steel Reserve. This is clearly end of day drinking cosmic punch, but it's not bad. My sense of taste was destroyed in a botched surgery by the Navy decades ago, but I'm not getting a really sour patch kids kind of taste out of this. I wonder how it compares to my "Bitter Pill" summer afternoon cooler. Not the fancy online recipe. This is 2 oz. Dry Gin, 2 oz. Vodka, 1/2 oz. Lime juice, 12 oz. can of Diet Squirt over Sonic crushed ice. It's more effective than waterboarding for getting the truth about neighborhood happenings. And that's a story worthy of sharing in my Carolina Story Telling thread. It'll really make you wonder about your neighbors who have gardens. It was so slow at the range today that I fell asleep for thirty minutes, watching the little clouds float past in the Carolina Blue sky. A shooter woke me at 5:00 for the last hour of live fire. "Serving size" is 7 oz. and the whole can is 4 3/4 servings. Like a bag of Doritos, regardless of size, this is a "single serving" for me. My rating would be "Not Bad." I don't feel over-served, and it was a pleasant flavor. Pairs well with vanilla whisky pipe tobacco, overcast skies and 12 day week exhaustion. And just like that, another one of my thrift store plastic chairs decides to jettison its' right rear support strut just as I lean back with a satisfied smile to watch the long leaf pines sway in the breeze. I think I need some wrought iron deck furniture.
