Creeks, Seminole, and other GA region tribes used pinch type grips.

 

I believe they shot with 3 fingers under the nock on the string. The nock of the arrow is gripped between the thumb and first finger.... not the mediterranean release...

 

I had heard that as well, but no one could show any kind of proof. Of those photographed, the Mediterranean is shown.

During the Middle Ages, archers often carried their arrows in canvas bags that had a leather spacer near the top to keep the arrows separated. They would have been used with bodkin arrows rather than broadheads.

There is evidence that SOME of them had the leather spacer. Most of the examples you see are reconstructed off of the Mary Rose (Henry 8th warship wreck), and they were not using bodkins, but a very small broadhead that was the "multi-purpose" round of it's day.

I run an arrowbag, sans spacer, and I love them. Much better for me than a back quiver, and you can maneuver them around your waste as needed to keep them out of the way. Even without the spacer, my experience has been that the shafts don't bind together as bad as with other quivers, with the exception of the styles that hold each arrow apart, like a limb quiver.
