    Any reduction of CO2 or methane emissions by a mass Bison kill-off would have been offset by their replacement with an increase in the population of domestic cattle, following the large scale clearance of the Bison dependent American Indians, from prime prairie grazing land.

    What has increased significantly since that time is the amount of CO2 emissions together with other gases, consequent to human dependency on fossil fuels, land clearance and other human interventions to the environment. I don't think the Bison hypothesis is anything more than a fart in a pickle bottle. But I'm prepared to consider any scientific data that may support the hypothesis, beyond mere post hoc opinion.
