You don't believe me? It's true, look it up. Congress can mandate postal rates and how they spend their money, but, by law, they are self funded.
Sorry, my BIL is a postal employee.... a good waste of tax or other dollars... and he part of the bright bunch of guys I met at his shop....
Well, my Dad is an executive with USPS (as if relations matter), and BY LAW, taxpayer dollars cannot be spent on the USPS. The main reason it is failing is due to the congressional mandates that defy common sense and good business practices. He jokes that he started drinking again after taking the job, since its such a losing battle. But, it receives no tax dollars other than an insignificant amount for the disabled, and overseas voting. Period.
congressional mandates........ and that leads us back to the .gov running everything into the ground.
For more than 235 years, the U.S. Postal Service has been delivering the nation’s mail in snow, rain and the dark of night. However, tough economic and market conditions and unrealistic legislative expectations have created challenges that have never before been faced. Misconceptions about the future of the U.S. Postal Service abound — it’s time to set the record straight. The Postal Service receives NO tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. We are required by law to cover our costs.. Dad may have convinced you of those facts but as a contractor I have seen waste and abuse of federal dollars in the USPS system...and then the family connection on top of that.... that is where my opinion comes from. How much money does the USPS loose every year? If a normal corporation ran on a negative revenue stream year after year do you think they would stay in business....no. But the fed keeps them rolling along... with what.... our tax dollars.... -3.5 bill in 2010, -5.1 in 2011 and -15.9 in 2012...something smells.... are some of those losses due to congressional mandates, yep... but as I originally said it is just another broken unit in the .gov....... Sure, they lose money. Lots of companies do. Prove to me where the US treasury writes them a check. You can't. They Don't. I find your "Dad may have convinced you" comment offensive. EABOD. This forum has become one of my least interesting over the past few years, due to the ignorance tolerated here. (And the wannabes posting as experts) I'm living the subsistence lifestyle largely dreamt about by the members here. I don't need this damn forum to learn anything, since I'm doing it on my own. It's your ignorance and attitude that makes me want to wish the educated and wanting to be educated members of this forum a fair goodby.
First off I apologize if there was any offensive comment as none was intended.. but I think you used your dad as the reference to make your point valid.... so that was a fair comment to suggest maybe your info is not correct... benefits and salaries are paid for those employees regardless of the revenue/profit and bottom line.... how does that continue to go on without tax payer dollars....not sure maybe you are right... I am not one of them so I am making general assumptions as I am very familiar with P&L for a business and know when it is going right or wrong from my arm chair. Either way we have made our point.... wrong or right... g-night!!
