So what do you people who don't live in the Big City Do for Medical & Dental Care?

Eds original line of thought is interesting. I equate ED to most Urban Dwellers that I know or have met. In general and on average they have real and very misguided perceptions of what rural life is like and the sheer amount of work and determination that it takes to maintain a self sufficient life style. Everyone has a different set of circumstances out here, some are a lot more self sufficient than others, some may as well be urban dwellers as they are no less dependent on the systems than any other urban dweller.

Rural Perception of the World and Urban Perception of the world are two very different critters. Basically two critters raised in very different worlds and neither usually survive very well in the others world.

I will give folks like ED some credit. He does not know and at least has the balls to ask and question about what he does not know. And even though he gets a lot of fun poked at him....... he keeps coming back fer more :) That says something........ not sure what it says but it does say something................

I do not consider medical or dental trivial but I would like to hear what you consider acceptable access to these to suit your needs ? One on every block or per capita of the population or driving distance ?? I have to say (yes I have travelled the length and much of the width of it) it’s really hard to get “remote” in the US (Alaska being the obvious exception!) compared to other parts of the world. In all honesty unless you are planning on moving to the Alaskan Wilderness you will have multiple choices in any significant population centre and more within an hour’s drive in any direction if those don’t suit you. Considering LA traffic (in parts Sydney traffic is worse) it’s not hard to travel an hour so I don’t see this as an issue.

There will always be a balance between getting away from the rat race and the availability of services you seek but let’s be frank, the US is NOT the third world and you can avail yourself of whatever it is you need (or even perceive you need/desire) with the simplest of research.

Ed wants a smorgasbord of specialists to pick from within a short walk or bike ride. Reality hasn't entered into his thinking at any time since he signed up. Anyway, your point about access being nearly impossible to not find is well taken. Again, it's one of those things that is a matter of choice.
One thing is for sure, being away from the potential center of trouble offers some choices that something like CHOP prevents.
