Tina went to a food pantry this week and they had a bunck of #10 cans of stuff that they couldnt get anyone to take, so when she said she would use the stuff they gave her and her friend with her all of them they had (about 15-20 of them). It was a variety of different AlpineAire stuff like hard wheat, split peas, sea salt, pearl barley and so on. So we now have about 8 #10 cans of the stuff sitting in the back room.

Four more pair of long john bottoms. [LMAO] These old bones can't take the cold very good anymore. Found them for at a military surplus store for $6 a piece.

Gun show this weekend. Hope to find more ammo, and M14 or M1 Garand spare parts. ;)

Any recommendations for storing food/supplies in a crawlspace?
They aren't 100% dry or anything.....

Depends on how accessible it is. Mine isn't easy to access, so I stay out of it unless I want to run some cables or pipe which is rare. I've thought of it, but to be honest, I'd have to cut a door in a closet to make it an available storage area. We have a lot of closets and cabinets for storage in our home. My ammo got so deep in two of my closets, I had to start keeping some of it in the garage. [LMAO]

If the crawl space is all you have then do the best you can to seal the stuff up to prevent damage from moisture and or use it for the most stable stuff you have.

Not that I neede yet another folder but I went ahead andmade a simple folder this afternoon. Its got a blade about 4" long made from industrial bandsaw blade (from the local saw mill) and a handle made from a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe. It looks cool, when I heated the PVC to shape it it burned and so once I sanded it a bit it looks like scourched bone. Instead of a poprivit like sugested in the post here that gave me the idea I used a piece of brass rod and just pounded it enouph to make it mushroom just a bit then hit it a couple of times with a center punch.

While I may not need the knife, the ability to make workable folders could come in handy in a post SHTF world.

Oh and while I dont think I mentioned it on here, I went to the saw mill last week and got about a cord of wood and picked up about 6 of the saw blades they were throwing away. They are about 2" from the area between the teeth to the spine, about 1/16" thick or just over and the loop is about 8-10' long or a bit more. They seem to make pretty decent blades and are free so I pick some up every now and then just to set aside.

Tell you what, after hearing katrina horror stories I'd be throwing an axe in the attic. Rather than be trapped by flood waters with a waiting cg helo above and we are far from any floodwaters.[cof][camo][axe]

[LMAO] Probably what people in Noah's time thought too. [LMAO]

We do sit high an dry as well, but Al Gore invented the internet and global warming, who knows what will come next. Maybe a planetary shift will put us all under water. [dunno]

Too much coffee this AM.... no doubt!

Edit note: Forgot to mention anything about what I put away. More .308 ammo, LC brass, other reloading supplies, as well as a new scope for my M1A, need to sight that in yet.

I brought in a couple of casting nets, a 6' and a 10'; wish I could throw a 12' but that's too much like work. I also got six good crab traps and a dozen yoyos and 100 misc. treble-hooks.

A few more rolls of TP and paper towels, more canned goods and vacuum sealed dried beans. Also started getting backpacks organized enough to actually be called "BOB's".

    Stuff I got this week

It was a productive week for my BOBs:
    • Singer Hand Needles -- Heavy Duty (Item 01025): 7 various-sized needles "for carpets, tents, leather, mattresses, furs". Found them in the sewing section at Target for $2. I picked up some "jeans" thread to go with the needles, but I'll need to find more heay-duty thread later.
    • Bic lighters -- got a 6-pack
    • Water-proof matches
    • Camp Axe -- it's heavy so I hope I don't have to carry it very far
    • Organization -- a lot to be desired still, but got a great start. Compartmentalizing the backpack with "sub-bags" seems like a great idea, but not sure yet how it will work out in actual camping. I'd hate to lose something important because I had to dig thru the backpack at night.
I really hope to get some bug-out property in the future because it's going to be a serious ordeal carrying what little we have stored for emergencies!
