I bought some P-38 can openers from Georgia Outfitters. Here's the page Seemed to be a good price and quick shipping. I also always use manual can openers, have you ever taken a look at the gunk that gets behind the cutting wheel of an electric can opener?

When I was vacuum sealing the flour, the vacuum stopped working. So the DW was Christmas shopping today and picked up a new one. So I guess that's been added to the stash.

    Sheesh!
I feel like I haven't done much lately....
Just spent $200. on medical supplies...
Another $200. on misc. survival items...
Got 10 new gas masks, and 30 filter sets...
6 new Rubberized German poncho's on the way this coming week....
But for the most part, I bought gas and stabilized the BOV, fuel, and some for the 2 generator's....
Been welding like a madman on the BOT I have decided to fabricate myself.
All in all busy, but NOT where I want to be yet.
Still NEED more canned goods, and some dehydrated stuff, like egss, butter, milk.
Never enough hours in the day,....neighbor's might be upset if I tried cutting steel at 3:30 in the am....
Welding is not a problem though!
    LOL!

Still gathering canned goods. Put in some canned potatos and fruit. We also went into one of the local warehouse stores and found that my wife has been buying our canned goods for pretty much the same price in the grocery store. Of course things like big bags of sugar are cheaper in the warehouse.

I'm also trying to get the wife out of some convenience packaging. For instance, she insists in getting the 5.1 ounce Bisquick Shake and Pour containers. She uses them all the time and got them on sale for $1 each, but that still has to be a lot more than a big box of Bisquick.

zombie bait: just renewed our sam's card, couldn't resist throwing a shrink wrapped 12 cans of veggies, and 12 cans of(1/2case) of spaghetti -o's into the pantry)nether of us like it real well so we won't eat it out of boredom.Wife chastised me for the buy, I told her"we;ll throw it out on the lawn and shoot over it..( figure it is a good barter or giveaway item too.)

Bought a "blast match" fire starter.off ebay it is really sweet throws a nice blast of sparks one handed!Takes two hands to open the cover though. Easier to use than the mag starter but you need to carry ( or create tinder).

Oops, almost forgot, I'm working on a mini kit. So far I have a AAA maglight, wind proof matches, fishing tackle, blade, p-38. I'll put in a couple cotton balls. I need to come up with a small container for some Vasoline. I also have a really small lighter. Also want to put a fero rod in there. I'm looking for a couple individually wrapped sewing needles. This all is in a 1" diameter tube about 6" long. I know I'm missing a couple things but I can't really place what it is.

Just sent the wife to Sam's today, but she still is not of the same mindset as me as far as buying bulk so we'll see what she comes home with.

Thinking of going to the surplus store tomorrow see what's on sale.

At one time I used Bisquick, till I found out it was only flour, baking powder & lard (oil). And at $2.38 prox for a 2 pound box, it was really high compared to plain flour.

    2 Cups flour, 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder & 2 tablespoons lard = 2 cups Bisquik, for a whole lot less $$$$.
For biscuits add 1 cup liquid (canned milk 2 oz & 6oz water), 2 teaspoons sugar, roll out & cut into size you like (use tuna can, glass, whatever fits).

For pancakes, increase that liquid to about 1 1/2 cups & 2 eggs, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
    For dumplings, 1 1/2 cup liquid, 1 or 2 eggs. it's awesome !

Try it, you may just like it !

I'll make sure she hangs onto the shaker containers as she uses them. Then I'll make up a batch of the replacement and have her give it a try. I sure hope she likes it.

We got our replacement vacuum sealer. I vacuum packed a wool blanket for in the car. I also added a couple small items to the car pack.

I do have a small razor knife in the kit, I'll need to pick up some unlubed condoms for it. Any idea of a brand that's unlubed? All I ever see are treated somehow.

Many years ago I got into the habit of making extra batches of dry ingredients for various baked goods. When you have eveything out, it's easy to measure out the flour, soda, salt, cocoa powder, etc. and seal up a batch. I use an old Sears seal-a-meal. When I need a cake, quickbread, etc, I just pull out a bag, add the wet ingredients and fat and I'm good to go. I chuckle when I see people buying "Tastefully Delicious" Beer Bread mix. I have the dry ingredients assembled in bags and just add a bottle of Guinness, pop in the oven for an hour and I'm enjoying a real treat.

Right hand, thats a great idea. never thought of doing that. i do almost all the cooking for the family and anything that makes my job easier.

ever try using a chapstick to coat a cotton ball instead of the P.J. it works great and there's less mess. i keep one on my keychain next to the fero rod. you can use it on anytype of tinder to help it catch the sparks

tomorrow's shopping day for me. soup and rice are on this weeks prep list
last week was shot shells and oil

Added a new backpack and at the grocery store I picked up 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving (should make lots of stuffing and left overs) and a third one because it was 57 cents/lbs. Also cranked up the buzz saw and cut up about another 1/4 cord or so of wood for the stove.

We didn't do all that much last week. This week we continued out stocking up for the short term stores. Added in 4 more 1# propane tanks, some additional canned veggies, potatos and corned beef hash. Several jars of apple sauce. 2 5# bags of flour, a 5# bag of sugar, 6.5# of iodized salt.

Also reading up everything I can. I bookmark a lot of it and go back to it later. I'm trying to concentrate on various farming topics since we plan on moving this Summer and haven't done much anything with a garden.

Question - any idea why Morton salt comes in a 26 ounce tube? What's so special about 1# 10 ounce? How much is needed per person for a year? What's the best way to store it? We just vacuum sealed the tubes.

The doctor said I can't have salt. Every can we have stocked up has from 10-50% salt.

A human can not live without salt, period!

Doctors are the leading killers in the U.S. today. Take their advice with a grain of salt. [lolol]

Look, if you have to resort to your stash things aren't good. Chances are lead will kill ya first before the salt. Just back off from it, be more attentive and don't eat junk food that contains a lot. I know a little about this, as I have had 2 heart attacks. I have lowered my bp with diet and exercise, and I still consume some salt.

    Cheap week for me.
8 pounds of rice, 20 cans of various canned goods - Campbell's Chunky Soups, Chef Boy Ardee and Chili - stuff that can be eaten as a meal with little or no prep.
20 cans of Smoked Kippers - a buddy turned me onto them - not bad!
Two large boxes of Strike-Anywhere Matches.

I also bought some canned and dry food and other stuff for our Food Drive at work for Christmas. We're helping a couple needy families.

Went through the cabinet and put 5# of rice and 2# of lentils in storage.

I haven't seen strike anywhere matches in years, where do you get them?

Publix Grocery here in Tallahassee, Florida has them. They were an 'impulse buy', as I hadn't seen them in awhile either.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Memphis carries them, so other SW stores may also.
