As a fan of the Andy Griffith show, Gomer was one of my favorite characters. Mr Neighbors was a very talented man who could act and sing. He proved timeless entertainment. RIP

He gave up the Gomer Pyle USMC show when offered the chance for a TV Variety Show. He could sing and hobnob with other celebrities.
I miss the old variety show format.

I'm surprised that he never sang The Marines Hymn or at least he never recorded it.

You didn't specify "serious"....you just said "never recorded", which would indicate all renditions. ;) He was singing 'in character', but we both know, that he could have recorded the US Marines' Hymn standing on his head, had he so wished. (y)

I always ask my religious friends “upstairs or downstairs” when a person passes. Some might say downstairs in regards to Gomer. On this one I say upstairs. :D

God doesn't send you to hell - you do that all by yourself. In any event I think the choir in Heaven just got one hella good baritone.

Jim once was, and now is not....he will be remembered for his work, and and humanity, and the entertainment that he continues to provide to those who care to visit his recorded singing and acting performances.

Any metaphysical claims to his present existence in heaven, hell, or elsewhere, is speculative. What I do know, is that there are many who appreciate that he lived; and that there are some who believe that he is presently occupying a deserved place in their personal, fanciful, notion of hell. He no longer lives: That's the long and the short of it.
