Some pretty good ideas ,, just wondering,, that looked like some soft wood tree pieces ,, do y'all have a lot of soft wood trees there ?? Or were they about 1/2 rotted out ??

Native species tend to be hardwood, however state forestry and commercial plantation growers produce softwood trees (mainly radiata pine) for domestic construction and manufacturing.

I had noticed the 1" wide band of knurling (Coleman) or stippling (Rogers) around the burner of the older M1950 stoves, but it never occurred to me that it was for striking matches.

On stoves made in the 1960's this surface is smooth. A cool bit of history and a neat trick if you have good strike anywhere matches and an early M1950 stove.
