Tomorrow is the big day for my Son in Law - he's going into surgery for repair of the dissected aortic artery that put him in intensive care last December. The doctors had to get him stabilized and improve his lung condition before operating. He's pretty drugged up tonight. The doctor has told us to expect 6 to 8 hrs of surgery. Although I am confident he will do well with the surgery and has an excellent surgeon on his case, I hope you will take just a minute to think of him and offer whatever positive thoughts you can. I love the kid!
Praying for a successful outcome and speedy recovery. A friend of mine had the same surgery last year. He is doing fine now.
RH....I'm sorry to hear of your son in law's medical situation....your family certainly seems to be experiencing their share of tribulation in recent times. My best wishes go with them both (your daughter and your son in law). It must be quite a strain on you, as it would be on your family. Don't neglect your own needs: the extent to which you are able to help and support the ones that you love depend on you maintaining your own strength.
Prayers to all Times like these are known as the longest waits Pray that hard times of the heart will pass and peace returns to your soul.
The kids still in surgery. They rolled in him at noon and just started the first of 3 arterial grafts. He's got a few hours to go but they are telling us he is doing nicely. We did find out today that the surgeon's protocol is to intubate during surgery and for 2 to 4 days after. The surgeon prefers to ease the patient back into full breathing slowly. Have to trust the one with the scalpel and experience
What a long stressful day for you and your daughter. @RightHand sending you a cyber hug and many prayers for your Son in law. Remember to take care of yourself because he will need your strength to help him when he recovers. You & yours will be in my thoughts.
Thanks MM34 and everyone else. Yes, it has been a very stressful day and unfortunately the best I can do is just be a mom and given them moral support.
He just got out of surgery and is headed to ICU. I guess they will start to waken in gradually over the ext few hours. My daughter is in with him which is a blessing for her. He's out like a light!
My son in law is healing. they took him off the ventilator on Friday and allowed him his first drips of water by mouth today. He's been complaining about the thirst. We don't know how much longer before he can head for home but I feel better knowing he has round the clock care. My daughter has been spending 12 to 15 hrs a day there with him and although she doesn't admit to it, I know she is tired. Your good thoughts and prayers have helped more than you know. Thank you all
Wonderful news, however prayers will continue. Try and get that girl to get some rest. I'm willing to opine that you're experiencing a bit of stress yourself, so take care of yourself while you're herding all those cats.
