Getting run over by tracked vehicles or trucks was always a concern... and it still happened too often.

Once getting my drivers licences pic, the DMV lady asks whether I was military? I asked her how she knew? Seems I was standing at parade rest - twenty years after separating! You can't take the "military" out of a guy!

Long ago and in a Universe far away, I was stationed at Nellis AFB. Way north of there, near a town called Panaca, the USAF ran a training mission simulating Soviet SA- series SAM RADAR systems to train Wild Weasel crews headed for the SEA war games. (TEWTS, part of the 57 Wing, barely)

The system I was assigned to was a modified MSQ-!A, a autotrack counter-battery RADAR system
The RADAR van (bottom) was linked to a 'computer' van with an enormous X-Y plotter to show where incoming fire originated. Yeah, it near worked. It did work well as a SA-2 simulator.

At the top of the image is a MRC-45 radio van.
It had the spares bins for the system, a pair of AN/GRC-27 multichannel radios and a massive heater/AC unit
We added a KWM-2A HF rig for comms back down to Nellis.

Oddly, my Navy-surplus hammock fit nicely inside, hanging from the ceiling brackets intended for the radio masting. .

When going to exercises @Ft Hood, I slept inside if we ran the gensets/it was raining or outside, with the hammock hanging from the radio masts.

Being around the Army back then was scary (draftees + out of control drug use) -- nobody wanted to sleep on the ground....

The new stuff is all purpose built, remotely controlled.

I sent this to my daughter . She just had a baby a week ago. She doesn't have the same sense of humor I do. I'll let you know if I ever get to see the kid again .
