and finally, for those with very large families.....

 

I used to get a great laugh out of this in the old land-speed car that I was still driving it to work. She'd idle along at 55 in 5th, but would quickly top 80 MPH in second, and 112 in third. I would occasionally do a 5-2 downshift on the highway on my way home in the evening and leave some poor Corvette driver wondering what had happened. The best part was the enormous fireball or two that would explode behind the car from the 5" megaphone exhaust tip when I let off the throttle and shifted to third.

Almost makes me want to get the car out of the garage and on the street again. It's 48 years old now, and I still have a new engine (peripheral port 13B that won't idle below 1500 RPM with a multi-disc clutch - should make parking lots interesting!) sitting in a crate. She's been under a car cover since August 2005, and my self-preservation instincts are flashing images of a small gray car rolled up in a ball with me inside.
