Motivational Poster Thread (warning content)

Seriously have a little respect. The guys just died. It's too soon for this crap.

 

For some reason, the dead are assumed to be deserving of some special respect that they may not have actually earned while they were living. They are dead and past caring what I or anyone else thinks of their legacy. There are some things that I actually admire about the man....but whether positive or negative, the taboo is just a taboo...not a hanging offence. I doubt that there would be much gravitas shown if it were Obama, or Hilary occupying the pine box instead of Antonin. I suspect that celebratory shots would be the order of the day. Justice Scalia had good entertainment value when he was alive, why should that change because he is now dead?

Edit: Justices Scalia and Ginsberg may have been fierce opponents at the bench....but they were quite good friends outside of their "office hours". Which goes to show, that apparently people with disparate values can find ways of overcoming ideological differences to value mutual friendship.

 

I for one would have given it at least a couple weeks. I would do the same for any politician no matter if i liked their policies or not.

 

Fair enough.....but who can tell? I may not be around in two weeks time....have had my share of unpredictable, close shaves with death in my time...one day my luck will desert me.. It's hard to do much beyond the grave.....Justice Scalia can tell you that....if he could. I'm not gloating at his death....just not indulging in the kind of hagiography that seems typical of many of his admirers.

 

It's an American thing. Give the people time to mourn. Too soon.

Or, just ignore him. Not just the posts in this thread but all of them. One of three things will happen:

1. They will change their ways because nobody responds anymore to their posts (preferred)
2. They will go away (not ideal or what I'm hoping for)
3. Nothing changes but you don't ever have to see any of it again

In my experience, some here are really only interested in civil, intelligent, thoughtful, respectful debate a very small portion of the time, outside of the "prepping" aspect. The rest of the time is pot stirring and trying to get a rise out of people. Personally, I don't have time for that in my life so it's not a part of it anymore.

 

Two places laughter is not appreciated. Weddings and funerals. Give those who wish to grieve time to do so.

 

@BTPost - Interesting, I don't feel deprived in the slightest. Yes, I know the ignored individuals can see what I write, which is why I'm not being overtly rude or degrading. And in case it crosses anyone's mind, no, I'm not hiding my head in the sand. If it were a mod (and it were allowed), that would be different. If I were ignoring Melbo, that would also be different. If I were ignoring someone who could/would warn me of impending doom, that would be different. It's not, they aren't, no loss.
