All of ours are rescue dogs.
Yup, a curly coated white bipolar dog is curled up next to me as I type.
A bit bipolar but fits well with us. Lost our last one after 15 years, but this one arrived a few years before that so the last Pup taught him the rules of the house.

 

What you have done is wise.
We dog people know dogs will not out live us until the end unless we meet ours first.
