    I have a couple of neighbors that run a rescue shelter for Shepard's. Never fewer than 6 dogs out walking - every morning. Nice folks that take good care of unwanted dogs....

    my son has a Newfoundland. When they would go camping here (Alaska) - they had a custom orange vest made for him so he wouldn't be mistaken for a black bear.

    Oddly, I don't worry about my grandchildren....

    Leroy here is a Newfie. You will wind up with enough fur after normal grooming to knit a second dog - every year. Newfies have to be the hairiest dogs I know of.

    There are places on line that will card, spin and knit hats, scarfs and shawls out of your Newfie's 'leftovers'.... Supposed to be warmer than wool.

    The Italian Coast Guard Uses Newfoundlands To Rescue People. There are page after page of water rescues - I don't know why our CG doesn't have a K-9 unit....

    Over 300 dogs are on duty at beaches throughout Italy, where millions of people visit each summer. The Italian Coast Guard says it rescues about 3,000 people every year.
