More like the parents are philosophers, than necessarily being patriots (though that said, being philosophers and being patriots aren't mutually exclusive sets)

The thing I like about this kid is that he/she was savvy enough to give the answer that the test designer was fishing for, but perceptive enough to identify the flaws in the test design, and courageous enough to point them out to the test marker. If I were the test marker, I think that I'd award the student bonus marks for an understanding of logic, in addition to the marks given for competence in simple arithmetic.

Too few people test and challenge the assumptions of an argument before attempting to resolve the conflict embedded in the argument. The arithmetic problem assumes that all humans have two legs; that a family consists of only humans; fails to ask the question...what constitutes a leg? (organic, synthetic?) etc etc.

This student will probably have an arduous but very interesting road to hoe through life, if he/she continues to apply their logical thinking skills. It is the kind of blessing and curse that I have had to live with for more than a little while.

Abe demonstrates that defining terms in a propositional argument is important, and necessary, if the argument is to have a valid leg to stand on.

 

I hate this crap. This guy says his health insurance when from $398 a month to $1400 a month for his family in 2014 so he dropped it. Notice how it's called "shared responsibility payment" comrade? Mine went up 84% in 2014 for worse coverage. This is socialist BS.
