A well regulated militia,

• Well regulated meant properly outfitted and prepared
• The Militia being all adult citizens who are not infirm
• This includes not just the standing army, and active militias, but all citizens

Being necessary to the security of a free state,

• The citizens are the ultimate militia and as equal stakeholders are individually responsible to defend the Republic.
• Arms includes, but is not limited to firearms. Otherwise firearms would simply be called arms.
• The security of the state is not limited to outside threats, but to internal tyranny.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms,

• The citizens have the right to the arms necessary to defend the Republic.
• The government answers to the citizens, and not the other way around.
• Arms means the arms (tools used to protect yourself or defend others) that can be used to defend the Republic, meaning the same type of arms used by the standing army as we are not likely to be threatened by deer, elk, or squirrels. Since our most likely threat comes from drug cartels and Islamic terrorists these arms should at least be equivalent to theirs.
