A buddy of mine a big duck hunter from Maryland lent me a book on market hunters and punt guns. The number of ducks killed was unbelievable and yes you are correct we would have no ducks if it were not for TR.

Looks like a 1911 recoil spring. There’s one on my basement floor somewhere. When I called Kimber to get a replacement, they dropped one in the mail, no charge. The guy laughed, and said they build the cost of an extra one in every gun they make.

 

Yep, BTDT! More than once.

 

The danged recoil spring plug was my nemesis. Lost it twice. First one at the range, found it. Second one at home, didn't find it until I'd already bought a new one. That's Murphy's Third Law.

 

I know two ways to disassemble a 1911 and have launched the spring across the armory both ways.

The one that got me was the greasy recoil spring on the FAL. Didn't get me in the face, but if you don't have the right tool it'll leap out at you.

 

Money well spent! And look at that smile on her face! Grandpa should have thought of that.

 

I'm a Southern boy; I don't even own a set of snow-chains...or a snow shovel...or a snowblower...or a snowmobile, but I do have a sled and military surplus snow skies.
PS We might get another round of snow on Wednesday.
