I remember those in Detroit. Dad had some cars that he'd built tin bodies for that were so fast I had a hard time just watching. I remember his brush contacts were long braided ground strap with a guide that could pivot a good bit in the slot. (The slot car version of drifting) The arms that the brushes were on pivoted at the rear axle, so it never lost contact with the slot on take off. Most of the chassis was just one big motor. It was about as different from my Revell slot cars as my street car is from a top fuel dragster. I got burned on those big motors a couple times.
