EVERYTHING seems to be "code" or a "dig whistle" these days. I read things the way they are written. Maybe I'm just too old. I remember when gay was a perfectly good word that didn't mean what it does now. I read about living on a farm and I smell dirt, manure and hay, my back hurts, and I remember how I learned to feed the goats without getting bit. If you read something about "getting away from black people" into the first sentence, I'm betting you've never lived on a farm.

 

Can you smell it?

 

There was a mix of White protestant, Black protestant, Hispanic catholic, and White catholic farms all around where I grew up.

Admittedly, most of the black farmers and ranchers were old as their younguns chose city life a generation before the rest of us did.
