Poor flying and NOT the way to approach . Old video at that. He got the landing gear tangled in the catchment netting so when he add collective / lift he would be of been way out of balance plus he has a forward / sideways cross wind of 30Knots of wind also . Bad mistake & lets hope he and all were alive to get yelled at . Ground effect is a few things that folks call certain flying aspects , & Ch-47 or Egg beater style of machine's have less ground resonance vibration style of effect & a much larger rotor wash using the ground effect . The description of the blades & rolling effect happens when you have reached the max "AIR" speed of the retreading blade and it stalls causing loss of lift & the machine rolls to the retarding blade side (not all machines blades rotate the same direction so they roll the other way )

Ground effect (rotor wash ) :

 

The ground effect to which I was referring is when a wing, either fixed or rotating, develops more lift due to the interaction with the ground. Fundamentally, while there are pressure differences above and below the wing, the lift can also be mathematically modeled with Newtonian physics and the notion that the lift results from air being pushed down. When the ground creates an impediment to the downward motion there is a resulting increase in lift. Its a phenomena that glider pilots use a lot if coming up a bit shy on approach for their desired touch down point (common in precision landing competition); dive on down into ground effect and that can extend the overall glide to reach the target - done it hundreds of times. I never completed my rotary wing license (it was on my dime and not Uncle Sam's and I just couldn't afford it way back when) but my instructor did discuss this a bunch when we were practicing hovering explaining its one reason you want to land on flat terrain ( atleast until you have the talents of those 47 pilots.)

Wasn't arguing , but just making sure folks understand the different terms .See with a rotary wing airship , one or some wing / s are going forward in forward flight while the other /s are going retreading minus the forward air speed . In a hover with no over ground air speed or wind , then all blades angles are equal angle or close enough to it. Im still looking for the Russia shake apart aircraft .
