1. I appreciate your reply YD and the spirit with which it was sent. My post #4961 was less a judgement of American society, than a judgement of Rick Perry's governorship. The USA is a society of religious pluralism, and although much of its population professes Christianity (even if a cultural affiliation rather than an actual faith commitment), there are significant non-Christian segments of the population (including nones) that Christianity really doesn't speak for. However, some Christian lobby groups will often try to legislate their religious beliefs into political governance (at all levels) whenever and wherever they can, even if it be to the detriment of other theists or non theist citizens alike. American politicians, (both liberal and conservative) trade on that fact when running for, and remaining in office, even if they don't actually themselves believe the Christian agendas that they promote.

I don't have any dislike of churches (* temples, synagogues, cathedrals, mosques etc): the building structures as such. Churches * don't usually kill people (except perhaps during earthquakes), but more often than one might desire, people do kill one another, influenced by the magical thinking engendered in such places. I comprehend that theists don't much care about the beliefs of non theists, except in so far that non theists may be suitable for proselytising at, or in summoning up apologetics in answer to non theist counter apologetics. Just know that I love your humanity, regardless of whether the higher power that you (and others) look to is actual or not!
