The Battleship Texas entering Galveston Bay yesterday, on its way to drydock at Galveston for a $34 million dollar makeover. This is the first time the ship has moved in 70 years. It is the last of the WWI era dreadnoughts. When the USS Texas (BB-35) was commissioned on March 12, 1914, she was considered the most powerful ship on the seas. The first American battleship commissioned with 14-inch main guns; she boasted 10 in five turrets of two. Maybe this is just a cover story for its refitting in preparation for Texit, Texas' second war of independence.

 

2022 Dry Dock Period
On 31 August 2022, after months of preparation to plug holes and fill voids with foam to limit potential flooding. The Texas was pulled out of her berth and towed to Galveston,[93] where the ship will be raised in a floating dry dock for extensive repairs. At approximately 6:00 am Central Daylight Time, the Texas was pulled out of her berth into the Houston Ship Channel and oriented and readied for tow. The move to Galveston commenced at 6:38 AM, with Cecile M towing and tugs Wesley A, Dolphin and Audrey assisting; Texas completed her transit into the submerged drydock at 3:57 pm Central Daylight Time.

 

As young teens in the late fifties we would be at the feed and hay barn on Saturdays to help load or carry for tips. It's a known fact that no matter what the color or pattern the one the ladies wanted was at the bottom of the stack. And no it wasn't just the ladies that were fickle, the men always wanted the bales at the back of the stack because they were greener/dryer/tighter or less one weed or another but hey, you could make enough on that Saturday to pay for a decent date that night........if you could stay awake......and didn't have to be in a tractor seat at daylight Sunday morning.
