The amendments to the constitution are not incapable of themselves being amended further...or indeed repealed, as was the case of the 21st amendment repealing the 18th amendment, presumably because a number of Americans felt that they had an inaliable right to consume alcohol..(with some statutory limitations.)

Of course when the church becomes dominant...it tends to silence those who would reveal the bad stuff about the institution, such as pedophile priests (N.B. protestant churches aren't loath to silence good people asking awkward questions either).
