Someone Uses Military As An Argument To Insult LGBTQ, Gets Shut Down With 16 Responses

OMG....didn't you realise that the whole Month of May is...NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH.



What is Military Appreciation Month?.

So, in actuality, the US military gets props for Military Appreciation Month...each year since it was inaugurated in 1999, together with Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.

The absurdity of the meme in post #40038, is that it portrays the US Military, and the LBTQIA+ community as being distinct, and quite separate groups, and it signally fails to recognise that a proportion of those flag draped coffins (in that aircraft and elsewhere) will have been occupied by non hetero non cisgender service personnel. It is a fact that there have always been a proportion of the US military who have been LGBTQIA+ and who have served their country honourably along with their hetero cisgender brothers and sisters in arms, but who, until relatively recent years have had to do so, well closeted, despite the best efforts of the military system to exclude them.

Instead of using a meme that uses a number of flamboyantly dressed and coiffured GLBTQA+ as the foil to the flag draped coffins to make a point... images of LGBTQI+ US military personnel could have been instead....but that would have undercut the homophobic / transphobic payload of the posted meme.

I have served with gay, lesbian, and bi personnel in the Australian Defence Force, and all that mattered was their competence and commitment to to doing their job with professionalism. Who they love, and how they love makes no difference to me, any more than those who are hetero normative cis gendered.
