I remember the old joke about Alaskan mosquitos so big they required IFF.

 

I've been living with many generations of Whitey the possum for 35 years. All I can grow at the beach is fruit, so they've never bothered my plants. I've never seen one around the chicken coop at the other place. Might be the owls and hawks that keep them away.

The possums biggest benefit for me is their ability to eat up dead cats that crawl under the enormous low deck out back. They're better than Serv-Pro at that. Like it never even happened.

Only possum I ever killed was in the middle of the woods in a Michigan winter, and he was eating a dead cat. I made a possibles bag for my muzzle loader out of the whole hide with the head for a flap. Sadly it was stolen from my camp, with all my other shooting gear in 1980. I've always kinda hoped the thief loaded up one of the black powder pistols with the smokeless powder that was in the cleaning gear box.
