You're wasting coffee HD ,,, I just spewed mine across the floor ,,, and I can't find my freeking mop ,,,

Dad finished the attic at our house in Detroit with paneling at the point where the roof got too low to walk. He hid a door on each side using the joints in the paneling to conceal their location. This gave us access to storage space under the lower parts of the roof. To open the door you pushed your fingers down into the shag carpet to give the door a tug and free it from a magnetic closure.

I remember that attic like it was yesterday. We could watch Mr. Espinoza and his buddies playing cards from the window. My brother and I got hollered at regularly for jumping from the bunk bed to Grandma's old bed, and then bouncing across the other two smaller beds that were stored up there. We had an aluminum and chain ladder that hooked over the window sill that we were supposed to climb down if there was a fire. In my mind I can still see the black spots on the concrete outside the kitchen where I was smashing whole rolls of caps with a hammer! It's a memory so vivid I can smell the smoke and feel my ears ring even 55 years later.

Nothing worse than inelegant welds...must have been done by a trade school dropout.
