The Taliban was never replaced in the first, through to its most recent iterations. It just periodically changed its enemies, alliances, theological ideologies, technologies and names...to adapt to the contemporary state of conflict whenever, wherever and with whomever it happened to be fighting at the time.

I would be totally unsurprised that China (if it was dumb enough) would in its turn fail spectacularly should it, in its turn try its hand at attempting to subdue the prevailing Afghan people in order to exploit their natural resources, while also attempting to establish its own world dominance. The Chinese would be stupid in attempting to do so. Afghanistan has been the graveyard of empires, and that state of affairs is unlikely to ever change....not even in my great, great, great , grand children's life time...that is assuming that human civilisation hadn't been wiped off the face of the earth in the meantime.

American domestic politics and international diplomacy are as a fart in the wind compared to the durability of Afghani culture following its adoption of Islam as its most pervasive theology.

 

He just needs longer arms, and quicker reflexes...or like Popeye...take a slug of spinach just before attempting that feat.
