OUCH! Why does that picture give me the shivers even more since you said that? I've had a couple of those "piercings." Fortunately there was an entrance and exit wound. Small Blessings.

Remember Chuck Connors in that TV show?

I thought I'd try to shoot fast like he did. Loaded up the Marlin 39A and got the rhythm down pretty well shooting from the rim of the valley down into the sand dome. I was getting really fast just about the time I slammed the lever closed on my trigger finger. When I pulled the trigger out of my finger the insides wanted to pop outside, Yikes! I remember using my thumb to push them back in where they belonged. I will always bear the scar on the second joint of my finger, but the memories make it all worthwhile.

 

Bad Tech and a cost to the employer

 

The last turbocharger they brought me to "recover the Staff Sergeant's finger" I told them that there was nothing to recover. If the impeller wasn't damaged, all I could do is wipe off the red smear on the inside of the housing. I took a little zip lock bag and put some pencil shavings in it and made a little sign for his desk that said "Staff Sergeant Stumpy."

 

There is a small lever installed on the guns lever for firing as it is closed.
Chuck’s gun had it as well as the toy guns replicating that action.
