I read that one yesterday and didn't get it.

It finally dawned on me this afternoon.

 

In 1959 when my parents were dating they went to a place that had valet parking. When they came out the valet scampered off to get the car. Five minutes later the valet came running back and handed Dad the key. The car was a 1956 VW Beetle, and you had to push down on the shifter to get it into reverse. The valet had no clue how to back the car out.

 

I've driven VWs like that!
