I doubt that some people would appreciate the fact that they were on fire, even as the flames scorched the hair off their head. And yes, there are some who would enjoy it while it lasted.

This is the sick, twisted reality that we live in at the moment.

I have to agree with you; current events around the world leave us feeling that we a living in what seems to be a world moving far too rapidly towards a possible future dystopian nightmare....yet, I have a qualified optimism that western civilisation will continue to totter along for some time to come. The Capitol insurrection was not the death blow of America as a Republican form of representative constitutional democracy, but it has certainly weakened it, much to the advantage of the USA's global military, economic, political, and ideological competitors.

I think, that in the case of the the Jan 06 Capitol rioters, both meanings of the word 'appreciation' are applicable.

One can only hope that they might reflect on their actions and come to value the good qualities of that which they had endeavoured to harm, and also that they have a full understanding of the situation that they chose to involve themselves in, and for which actions they are presently being held to account, beyond the buyer's remorse for the lies and deceptions that propelled them to that place and time and to those actions.

Remember, TRump loves loves them....:but not enough to join them at the barricades.
