I don’t know for sure but it’s tradition to bless the guns, and the hunters, before the opening of hunting season in some parishes.

Last time I caught a gator while fishing I pulled him all the way up onto the little spot we were fishing from and he still wouldn't turn my bobber loose. About that time I realized we were standing on a spot of about the size of a sheet of plywood with an angry 4' alligator. Number One Son and I scampered up the stone embankment like a couple mountain sheep.

Fat boy will lose a hand sooner or later doing that trick.

 

Do that with a Salty here and it would just peel his face off

 

Probably a farm raised gator looking for a treat.
