I’m a little confused about that boat motor.

 

Valet boat delivery service? It's a lake/river boat, so the distance from dry storage to dock may not be that far. Good work if you can find it.

 

Oh, it can get even more confusing. Apparently it’s ok to use a gas engine to power the PTO input to a big round baler and bale retriever but horses have to pull it.



Oh, and I’ve seen plenty of Amish use cell phones and text. Even own a fleet of trucks for a construction business but non-Amish employees drove them.
I’m a bit confused too.

When I lived in Amish country, electronic devices were not unknown. Old Abner had a battery TV in his carriage under the dashboard. Wasn't unusual to find his carriage behind the Radio Shack where the clerk would change his batteries.

BUT he DID move a lot of stuff by horsepower, including dragging a harvester with a diesel engine. No spark, so the prohibition on anything electrical was followed well enough.

 

Maybe they are Mennonites, like Amish but with priviledges.

 

Could be, but Old Order Mennonites are even more strict than Amish. There is a spectrum.

 

I saw much of this in the heart of Amish land, Lancaster County PA. I even talked to several Amish about it outside a store as they sat texting away. They said if the local cleric says ok, then ok. One guy I talked to even had a tractor and it was ok to use it to carry the big round bales but he had to pull his round baler with horses but the gas engine on the chariot powered the PTO to the baler. Go figure.
