I remember tracks like this inside hobby shops in Detroit. Dad was one of the big kids that built "sleeper" slot cars with big motors that made up most of the frame. They got smoking HOT, and were crazy fast. He'd modified the chassis so much that he had to make tin roadster bodies to make the cars look normal. They'd leave the line with the front tires in the air. The cars were so heavy they never left their groove. Full power all the time.
(But with the braided brass brushes always in contact with the conductors on the track)

Never saw Alfred, Bruce, Dick or Aunt Harriet at the track.

He did that well. Stayed with the aircraft to keep it under control as long as he could and then punched out.

I heard it somewhere. Some sort of pilots rule. "Don't stop flying the aircraft."

I saw one crash on a vertical take-off and when the pilot ejected, the wind blew him right back into the flames. The P19 was there within seconds and the crew foamed him down before he got more than a little toasted.

 

The ones I dealt with were the "smoking hole in the ground" out on/around the Nellis Range Complex or remote Alaska.

Once the pilots (or parts thereof) were recovered, I turned the comms over to the scrapers and was able to go home.

just use "jet crash death valley national park" to see the amount of .mil tin scattered across the desert.
