Re: the batteries and 50%. Well, yes and maybe. Each type of battery will have it's own limitations and "normal" operating parameters. Some can be pushed beyond "normal" some cannot. You'll need to do some research on manufacturer's sites and literature. SM has some folks that know a LOT but without the mfr's data in hand, you are at risk. So far as the charge controllers go, they should be programmable to accommodate the battery type. Appears like you are very, very early in this program of "going solar." First step, get a killawatt meter and start measuring things. Find all electricity consumers in the house and read the nameplate data. Before measuring the demands of your reefers and freezers, load them with something to freeze and keep them as full as possible for the duration of life. MUCH more efficient when full. CS is spot on about filling milk jugs with water. (That has the added benefit of water storage for your preps.)
