I have a CS (cold start) lister I'm putting together with a large ST head. Runs at 650 rpm (6 HP) and needs less than a quart of fuel per hour. I know a family that is off grid that offer ru s one of these in the winter to supplement their solar and pull the heat out of the engine for a radiator to heat a room. The possibilities are many with a CS for fuel, diesel, fuel oil, kero mix, even wood gas with a little work. They are around and I believe the best choice for a long running, EMP proof generator. Buy a set of spares, a few filters and extra ST brushes and bearings and I think I you have an engine if taken care of will last a lifetime.

I almost forgot about George breckenridge, good website to also learn about running and repairing them. George is kind of MIA and doesn't reply to emails anymore but still has his website up:

I've researched slow Listers and besides being hard to find. Heavy and hard to move. so I will pass. (I like them though)Those water tank Chinese diesel are cheap if bought from China, Like 300 dollars from China. but they are illegal. I am trying to figure out how to produce power with methane from a digester.

Canadian, i think you can still buy a lister legally. There's a guy near Toronto sells them, I bought spares from him a few years ago and he also runs his place from a lister. I spoke with Jim last fall and he had a few listers in stock.

I have one of these in the 26hp flavor connected to a 15kw ST head in a trailer. I paid 1100.00 for my engine and 450.00 for the ST head, converted to an electric water pump and a Honda motorcycle radiator. Also has electric start. I probably have less than 100 hours on it, and it hasn't been started in a few years. I did belt drive instead of direct drive so I could run the engine at 2200 for rated HP. PM if you want pics or wanna buy it.
