Yesterday before the hurricane hit, the hype was at a high. Death destruction etc. and we have people like Shep Smith saying stuff like this:

Fox News anchor Shep Smith says of Hurricane Matthew: 'Your kids will die'

I do not appreciate reporters who do stuff like that. It could cause people to panic and when people panic, dumb stuff happens.

 

What a D.A. I've died a couple of dozen times if that was true!

 

i do not think Shep Smith lives in florida

 

current projection for my area... 6-12 inches of rain 45-55 mph winds... combined with the past rain it will be interesting....

 

Have you still got a high water mark on your house from Floyd? I have a friend who has one on a shed door. It is at the level of my nose. I helped another friend when his house had had about 18" of storm surge flow in and out. The whole neighborhood was hauling junk appliances and furniture to the curb, except for one house. They have a double wide trailer almost 8 feet in the air, on a concrete block foundation, and they were having a cook-out on their deck like nothing had happened. Park the cars on high ground, watch the water come in...watch the water go out. That's the way to do it if you have to live on low ground.

It's starting here now, 40 mph gusts and lots of rain. Forcast for 6-12" rain and maybe 75 mph gusts. Off to work I go.

What it looks like on closer examination is a Stormfront - type outlet. IOW - fake.

Water damage in the office, carpet is wet, but it is from rain blasting into the door at high speeds and coming around the jamb. No real damage of any kind. Jax Beach looks incredibly good.

My ex wife lives on Merritt Island, on a canal only a stones' throw from the Banana River. She called my mom to let her know she was fine and had evacuated to a friends house. I mentioned that to my daughter (she lives in Rockledge) and she laughed...said her mom's friend's place was a second story condo...still on Merritt Island.

 

31 counted road breaches in the county... upwards of 12+ inches of rain. Roof and building damage. Water system has been compromised, county phone exchange including 911 are down, but we are well...

 

BLM volunteers helping stores clean up after Matthew.

 

Matthew is gone, wind damage minimal but rivers still cresting.They just evacuated an area today and leaving it to the floods. The flood damage will be in the multi-millions. Roads still closed, bridges still washed out, hundreds so far now have nothing. Some areas may be weeks before getting power back. We just had floods here last October and now again this October. I'm thinking of moving up closer to Bruce in Alaska. A friend with an airplane is better than owning an airplane....
