    Price hikes?

Sad when someone uses such to get more money... sad...

who owns the place selling the water and who owns the station?

folks need to remember such and avoid doing business there afterwards.... IMHO...

might help out in the future?

oh and thought I'd throw this in... Chel may not care for it but HISTORY SEEMS to show us a thing here?

These early Christians set a model for their descendants to follow, a model that today’s modern secular societies seek to imitate, but without Christian motivation. Sympathy toward the poor is a concept that comes from Christianity, for the rich and well-to-do in Greece and Rome despised the poor.69

The contrast is also noted by modern historians. “When epidemics broke out,” says Howard Haggard, the Romans “often fled in fear and left the sick to die without care.”2 Haggard further notes that the Romans saw helping a sick person as a sign of human weakness; whereas Christians, in light of what Jesus taught about helping the sick, believed they were not only serving the sick but also serving God. Thus, Christianity filled the pagan void that largely ignored the sick and dying, especially during pestilences. In so doing, it “established the principle that to help the sick and needy is a sign of strength not weakness.”

Saw reports that during Katrina the feds/fema actually barred or turned away them folks from helping?

not sure that happened... but if it did... would love an explanation as to why...

It wasn't just waterborne help that was turned away. If you weren't part of the "official" government you were just a "civilian" and in the way. Loggers, equipment operators with equipment, truckers, people with supplies in u-hauls, people ready to do the grunt work, skilled trades, all were told go home this is the "governments" job. We know how that turned out. Katrina woke a lot of people up to the fact they aren't JUST civilians but CITIZENS and only they are responsible for their selves and their neighbors. With Harvey you can see the results of those lessons learned. When the people of Texas called for help it's here from all over. East, west, and north. No politics just citizens helping their neighbors. And yeah, the Cajun Navy among the first to respond into Houston. Of course it wasn't Texas A&M vs. LSU weekend or it coulda been beer and torpedoes vs. beer and cannon fire at the Sabine. ;) Texas woulda won. :p

M118LR Caution: Does not play well with others.

It's times like this that make me wish that Local Hurricane/Tropical Storm checklists included items that could assist your rescue from the roof like day/night flares, mirrored signalling devices, even whistles.

The average TV Checklist: Hurricane Supply List | Hurricane Checklist | Hurricane Safety

Sheltering in place, (standard storm dogma) when the water raises to the rooftop, becomes surviving until extracted.
Wishing the Good Folks in Texas all the best. Godspeed.

Government entities don't like sharing glory for a job with one another much less the public ,proving their worth so to speak .
Sheriffs department has so much macho it is literally insane that they won't ask civil air patrol for help seeing they have the ability to cover more ground than the S.O. can ,in a shorter amount of time.
It took years before they even allowed dogs on searches , that's how back word they are.
A second problem is liability civilians can become if they lack training and require more rescue efforts .
Anxious efforts by the amateur is dangerous for all involved. Especially swift water rescue.
    IMO if people want to participate in rescue ;
    1. get trained by the pros.
    2. practice with the pros.
    3. register with the sheriffs department so they know who and what you are capable of .
    4. carry identification that can be shown to local authorities.
It covers their a$$ ,if you do something stupid.
It covers your a$$ , if something unexpected occurs.
In an event a LOT of unexpected goes on.

I made something for water and Ice rescue.
2 liter bottle stuffed with 100' of paracord, and a 2" brass hook .
Stuffing the bottle (using a rod) full of cord will deploy completely especially with the brass hook.
The end loupe on you hand and other end on the bottle with the cord and hook is thrown. Ideally you want the hook to precede the bottle so the cord can deploy freely out the opening facing back at you .

The bottle acts as a floatation device and the hook is applied to the cord around the victim merely by holding the hook and turning around once and latching to the cord.
As with all things it takes practice, and I have found that trying to throw floatable rope 100 feet is almost impossible , this changes all that.
