Hurricane Helene came ashore as a Cat 4, 10 miles west of Perry, Fl. It swung east of me in Tallahassee, Fl. As of 1;15 AM I still have power, but it's reported over 900,000 homes are without power. One death reported near Tampa, a highway fatality. For me, the effect has fortunately been less severe than expected. My home is a strong concrete block house in high ground, no danger of flooding. Won't know about yard damage until daylight.
The storm is rushing northeast at high speed, it's effect lessening for us here in Tallahassee.

    Update.
Nearly 3AM now. I still have power - amazing! Storm is up into Georgia now, and is a Cat 1. One fatality reported so far, in Tampa. About 900,000 homes throughout Florida without power. I'm not hearing the storm outside, so I think it's about over for us. Daylight will reveal any yard damage. Since the storm went further east of us, we in Tallahassee got off better than it could have been. This is one for the record books.

Helene went far enough east had no effect on Gulf Breeze. Glad Tallahassee did not take a direct hit

Thanks! Poor folks around Steinhatchee though, they've had a one-two punch!

Helene is a fast mover! She's already up tickling Chicago and Detroit.
But her power is much reduced. They'll just get a good soaking. o_O
