As a young boy, my father cut down a large Jacaranda tree in a place that he wanted to build a shed. The stump left behind was also inconvenient, so he drilled a number of holes in the top of the stump, and my mother would progressively fill them with the cooking oil and molten rendered fat from her cooking, and we would set it alight...it took a while, but the stump was progressively burnt to ground level.
