That is precisely what we did. W e raise rabbits, live on a lake full of fish, ducks and geese. Lots of deer etc. and the garden for those fresh and canned fruits and veggies. W e store several hundred pounds of rice, boxed potatoes, Raman noodles etc. Addin our meats and veggies, fruit etc. My two year supply of staples gets stretched to 4 years by doing this.

Fat is essential. If you are looking at all grain and legume based food storage, pick up some of those large jars of coconut oil to add to everything.

Fat is difficult because it does not store well, is scarce in freeze dried and dehydrated foods, and is almost absent from most green vegetables. I store some refrigerated which I rotate; olive and coconut.

Saturated fats like coconut oil has an almost unlimited shelf life. It's incredibly stable.

Vegetable oils are extremely unstable (and unnatural in the quantities used in the average Amarican diet) and will go rancid in a year.

Disclaimer: vegetable oil free family :)
