ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

Yeah, after I moved up here in '08 I had to get a new doctor. Unlike Dr. Pillsforall, he didn't immediately whip out the prescription pad. He had an MRI done, but to be honest I don't remember what he said. We didn't really get along too well. He sent me to a specialist who wanted to do cortisone shots in my spine, (I think there's disc damage now) but needle coward that I am, I didn't go through with it. I changed drs not too long after that and just kinda went back to sucking up and dealing. My current doctor is aware I had a bout with pain pills in the past and is reluctant to prescribe them for me. I get a refil of 20 about once a year and squirrel them away for those days when I'm in too much pain to function.

Some folks respond well with the cortisone injections.. It's not a cure but it can help for a while..

By the way, Hope someone slapped some knot's on fat boys head!

A few years back I had some surgery and the doctor prescribed 30 Dilaudid with 2 refills with no real instructions or cautions......I looked it up and one street name for it was "Hospital Heroin". When you get a bit older it is astounding how doctors will freely prescribe dangerous drugs.

The DEA and FDA are putting pressure on Doc's and pharmacies regarding the prescribing of narcotics..

@ditch witch , without those shots, my mother would not be walking. Let them help you. I too, hate needles, though I did try acupuncture, to relieve pain (didn't do a thing for me), and I give blood from time to time. I do what I do because giving in to fear makes it stronger, and because I know they need my blood to work on kids. (I clot almost imediatly).
My Dad gets them in his knees, a couple times a year, and my mother in her low back, where she had back surgery. They help a lot. Don't stay in pain out of fear. :(

Remembering back to my Navy days (before OTC ibuprofen), when I'd come back from the bar, take 2 extra strength Tylenol (2 x 500mg each), and wash it down with as much water as I could drink. Great cure-all for next morning hangovers! LOL

The water (as much as you could drink) probably had more to do with the lack of hangover in the morning quite honestly.

The therapeutic index (safe dosing) of acetaminophen (APAP)is HUGE. In reality, one of the safest drugs we use as compared to some of the poisons out there.
People must be responsible and take things responsibly!!
Lowering the dose of APAP will increase prescription abuse as it will be "safer" to pill pop.
Patients already talk about this in the ER..."it's all good, now that they are taking down the Tylenol, I can take way more Oxy"

Chronic pain is almost always multi factorial. There is very good data that shows opiate use, chronically, makes pain WORSE.
MRIs, in the case of chronic back pain, occasionally shows a culprit anatomical problem, but a large amount of the time even the MRI is of little help. Traditional medicine in this day in age has very little to offer people with real chronic pain.

Did a visit with my Doc for the yearly visit.. Had a script for hydrocodones, from my tumble down the road, that I had not used in over three or four months.. Was asked by the pretty nurse if I wanted to be involved in the pain management program.. I had clearly marked on the forms NO to if I was using them.. Lrft the questions about firearms in the home and relationship with the wife unanswered..
