The new Downloads section can be accessed through the main navigation bar at the top of the forum index page. It is called RESOURCES. After you click on Resources, you can conduct a search by clicking on 'search resources' for your intended book and filling in the required criteria: You can see I chose "Bug Out Bags". This will refine your search for only the books listed with this heading. *note* The search feature in resources is not working correctly. You can use the normal site search or just browse resources at this time. Will update this as corrections happen.. Click on any subject heading in the left column you would like to browse. I am sure you can figure out how to browse newest resources and the most downloaded or popular resources, and look around to find something you may need. If you cannot find what you are looking for, you may always post a question in our Shoutbox on the main page, or start a new discussion in the general forum for assistance. TIPS AND TRICKS: If you upload images to your post, you can choose to insert every image as a thumbnail or full size image with one click. This feature is optional, and still allows for manual insertion by not choosing if you prefer.
The (new) private messages (Conversations) module has been installed successfully. Here is a brief rundown on how to manage your conversations, especially the deleting part: Step one - Go to your conversations page (click on "Inbox" in the upper right nav bar) Step two - You will see small check boxes next to each conversation. Go ahead and check one of them: I will select "Nice to see you posting again", because it is indeed nice to be posting again... Once you select a conversation, a popup will display: From here, all you have to do is select whatever you wish to do. If you want to delete the conversation, you can do that. If you want to select all conversations on the page, click the small check box in the upper right of the popup. You have all the power to manage your own conversations now!
Which is no different than the old system and the act of deleting a PM. or an email. I just want to make that point because I don't want people to think it's any less than before.
For others: Think of this just like an e-mail system and the conversations are the same as messages: if you send 3 people an e-mail (start a conversation with 3 people) and you delete your original sent e-mail (leave the conversation), the other 3 people still have the e-mail and can continue to converse (can still carry on the conversation if you leave it and ignore future exchanges).
How to add an Avatar An avatar is a simple image that is used next to your username in many areas of the forum. Click on your avatar (or gray box if you don't have one) next to any post you've made. This will open up your Member Card: Click 'Profile Page' located under your name a couple lines. Alternatively, you can click your username at the top right of any forum page and select Avatar in the left hand column. Now select Custom Avatar and then Choose File. Browse to the image you'd like on your computer, select and then hit Okay after it uploads. You should now have a new avatar next to every post.
With this system, not so critical I just chose a full size image and then was able to drag it around in the upload avatar window and XF auto-cropped and image resized on the fly. In vBulletin, you had to have the precisely sized image that the system wanted to use.
Member Tagging When you are posting some information that you'd like another member to see or think they might be able to give some expertise on, type an @ and then start typing their username ghrit The username will show up in a box and when you click on it, a 'tag' will be set and that member will get an alert that they were tagged in a post. When they click on that alert, it will take them right here to the post you wanted them to see. You can tag multiple users by simply entering their names with a @ before them: Brokor Guit_fishN etc. It's a pretty neat feature and has never failed in bringing me to a thread.
User Albums You can upload pictures into an album by clicking User Albums seen here: and then Create Own Album here: Pictures will randomly display (to registered members only) at the bottom of the main page of this forum. You can also browse all the public albums through the link in the first image or http://www.survivalmonkey.com/useralbums/
Reply = Quote Reply without Quote = Scroll down to the reply box at the bottom of the page. Multi Quote = click reply in a post, scroll back to where you were reading and click reply agin, etc. At the end, all of those posts you want to reply to will be in the Quick reply box at the bottom of the thread. You can reply to each as appropriate.
HOW TO LINK DIRECTLY TO A POST IN ANY THREAD (PERMALINK) You can link any post directly by copying the URL at the bottom right of every post. The link is denoted by the # of the post: Here is a close up of the permalink, located next to the "Reply" button: By hovering your mouse over the permalink # and right clicking, then choosing "Copy Link Location", you can simply paste this into your post to create an easy reference. Let's say I wanted to refer a member to the post above, only I am in another thread. I would simply right click the post #35 permalink by Melbo, copy and paste it into my thread. This is shown below: Did You Know? Forum Tips and Tricks (New) | Page 4 have fun!
