Using expired tinned food as a fire source. Interesting concept, but only feasible for tinned food, particularly tuna, sardines, etc tinned with vegetable oil....packed with spring water...not so much. The wooden pegs driven into the holes need to be soaked in the vegetable oil and will need to effectively wick the oil. https://youtube.com/shorts/TTK25weSYx0?si=0MjYi9_-APsv-wMV I posted this YT Short, not so much for its practicability, but for the creative way of solving a problem with an out of the square novel solution. Tinned foods have a long shelf life, and unless the can is blown is probably safe to consume if not long after the best before date. Even best before expired food may have some value for trade, or used as fishing / hunting bait / attractant. Draining the oil after eating your can of sardines into a small bottle is another option.
Disposable Bic lighter with waxed string slow match attachment: https://youtube.com/shorts/DN8sTnpKSZo?si=rombrWL0vErNxXFO The slow match makes it easier to ignite the tinder without burning fingers and conserves the lighter's butane fuel for igniting the slow match instead of getting tinder started with the fighter's flame. The slow match is waterproof and will ignite when damp.

Tarpology UTube short. https://youtube.com/shorts/8uXGL02TOV4?si=0HfgMckQlQpc4Vwn I don't recommend walking over a the top of a tarp as it lays on the ground as a short cut...sharp debris, thorns and stones may damage the tarp and reduce its waterproofing value.
