Every cartel is either directly run by the CIA or run through the CIA at some point. The purpose is to destroy America, not just make money from rich celebrities. The money is a means to an end. The real money is in human trafficking, and that business stands to increase in the long run, not decrease. Some folks are short sighted, they can't see how the whole global financial system works and how it has ripples carried over from country to country. The future is dark and very cold. Those who are poised for it can profit greatly. The CIA operates with impunity and within a shielded bubble of secrecy, serving themselves and those who hold no stock in the technology we see. When Artificial Intelligence and quantum computers can solve any code, every bit of information is bared naked and vulnerable...there will be no privacy, the entire system will collapse. The highest levels of intelligence are all working on making cryptography sound, but they won't be successful. You are older, you know how important learning a trade is, and people like us are a dying breed...but we will be the only ones with an actual skill and therefore useful once the system collapses. We're talking about no computers, no phones, nothing working at all because none of it can function securely, and that's if it can function at all. Now, going full circle, how much wealth can be generated by the cartels and CIA in a world where technology is broken? It's inconceivable, really.
